Know Thyself 2

Revelation 3:17: Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

Unbelievers do not know and believe that they are wretched sinners worthy of death and Hell. When men become saved and know the Lord, they begin to see and know themselves as God sees and knows them. Unbelievers think they are good enough to enter Heaven as they are while believers learn that in and of themselves they are wretched sinners. Even after we are saved, our flesh wants to believe that it is good enough and we often forget that in and of ourselves we are not good enough to enter Heaven. It is painful and shocking when now and again God makes us aware of the sinful nature of our flesh. Only when we are aware of how sinful we are can we know how desperately we need God*s grace, mercy and forgiveness and be truly grateful to Him. Seeing ourselves as God sees us makes us humble and grateful.

Romans 3:10: As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Romans 3:23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ephesians 2:8: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Moses saw himself as God saw him and did not want to see his wretchedness.

Numbers 11:15: And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

Even after God had worked miracles through Him, Elijah would also rather have been dead than know about his wretchedness.

1 Kings 19:4: But he himself went a day*s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

Isaiah was undone when he saw himself as God saw him.

Isaiah 6:5: Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

Paul, a saved man who had penned several books of the Bible with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and preached the gospel for several decades saw himself as God saw him.

Romans 7:24: O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

When Simon Peter first met Jesus, he began to see himself as God saw him.

Luke 5:8: When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus* knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

A proud Pharisee did not see himself as God saw him but a humble publican did.

Luke 18:10: Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14a I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: . . .

We ALL need the attitude of that publican.
